How buying a car here works

There is no trick to it. You find a car on the site, you come and look at it, you drive it, you get someone you trust to check it, and then you buy it. Here is the same thing at more length, in the order it usually happens.

Step by step

7 steps, start to finish

  1. Find the car

Start in the inventory. Every listing carries the engine, gearbox, mileage, exterior and interior color, body type, stock number and price, so you can narrow the field down before you pick up the phone.

    Browse the lot
  2. Call or email

Tell us the stock number of the car you want and when you can get here. We are open weekdays; if those hours do not work for you, a weekend appointment is worth asking about.

  3. Look at it in person

Walk around it, sit in it, open everything that opens. If you are driving a long way to get here, ask for close-up photos of the panels and the underside first — it is a cheaper way to rule a car out.

  4. Drive it

Every car here is one you can drive before you decide. Drive it cold if you can, because that is when a car tells you the most, and take it up to road speed rather than once around the block.

  5. Get an independent opinion

If you want the car inspected by someone who does not work for us, arrange it before you agree on a price. Bring a mechanic, or a friend who has owned the same model. On a classic, that means somebody who knows where the rust hides; on a late-model performance car, somebody who knows what that model tends to wear out.

  6. Settle the number and do the paperwork

The price is printed on the listing. Before you sign, ask what the out-the-door figure comes to so that tax, title and registration are not a surprise at the end, and call ahead to confirm which forms of payment we take and what you need to bring with you.

    • Driver's license and proof of insurance
    • Anything your lender asks for, if you are financing elsewhere
    • Never wire money for a car you have not seen or had inspected
  7. Take it home

Drive it off the lot, or ask about having it trucked to you. Either way the last step is the title and the plates, and you leave with the paperwork in your hand.

    Getting the car home

If you cannot get here

The lot is at 3473 Gribble Rd, Matthews

Ask for more than the listing shows

Name the panels, the wheel wells, the engine bay, the trunk floor. A vague request gets vague photos; a specific one gets you something you can judge.

Hire your own inspector

Book an inspector yourself and have them meet the car at the lot. A report you paid for answers to you and not to us, which is the whole point of getting one.

Sort out the drive home

A car can go on a trailer or under its own power. Work out which, and what it costs to your address, before you commit to buying.
